Core Requirements
The following requirements apply only to students entering the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences prior to Fall 2017:
The core curriculum for College of Liberal Arts and Sciences students provides the opportunity for a broad and rich exploration of our disciplinary offerings. Balancing structure with choice, students will examine the complex worlds in which they live from a variety of perspectives. Courses may be taken to satisfy both core requirements and major or minor requirements when expressly permitted by a department/program.

1 | CMP 115 will be waived for students who attain a 550 or above on the EBRW section of the SAT, an ACT English score of 23 or above, or a score of 4 or above on the English Department placement test. |
2 | Required only of those students scoring 470 or lower on the reading comprehension portion of the SAT. |
3 | Students who place at the 200-level or above are still required to take a minimum of 3 credits at the level of placement. Students who are native speakers of other languages may have their requirement waived upon documentation of proficiency. To initiate a request for a waiver, students should see the chairperson of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. |
4 | Appropriate mathematics and science courses may be substituted if required by the major. |
